House Cleaning FAQs
Below are answers to some of our most commonly asked questions. If you don't see your question here please contact us, we are happy to answer all inquiries.
Do you work by the hour or by the job?
Both. For initial home cleans or one time cleans we charge by the hour, but after we have cleaned your home once and have an idea of how long it will take us we will then offer you an average flat rate. If we give you an estimate that it will take 2 hours to clean and it takes 3, you still only get charged for 2!
For additional add ons and individual services we price those out seperately based on the job.
Do you only do house cleaning?
In addition to house cleaning, we want to help you achieve all of your goals so if you have something else in mind, just ask!
We offer a variety of a la cart services like washing dishes or doing laundry. Pet Services are now available as well including dog walking and in house pet sitting. We also offer specialized services such as Steam Cleaning and Ozone treatments for the elimination of mold and odors.
Do you set up parties? Clean up after parties?
Although we do not set up parties, we will gladly clean up after them provided the client provides garbage cans and removes of the waste and recycling afterwards. Cascadia Cleaning Company is not responsible for disposing of waste or recycling.
Do you do moving cleans (move ins/outs)?
Yes! We offer the flexibility of moving cleans to suit your convenience 24/7 365. Last minute, evening, weekend and holiday cleans are welcome!
Didn't pass the inspection for your damage deposit? We can help! Moving out and want to leave the place sparkling for the next resident? We can help! Bought a new home and the last tenant left it less than fresh? We can help!
If my regular cleaning falls on a holiday will you be working?
It's up to you! We always confirm your next appointment a week in advance, but we can move your cleaning to better suit your schedule. Having said that, cleans that fall on stat holidays do bill at a holiday rate.
Do you charge more to work on holidays? Evenings? Weekends?
We do have a 25% rate increase on all regular house cleans during Stat Holidays, Evenings and Weekends. This works out to an additional 1 hour of cleaning time for every 4 hours worked or half an hour for every 2 hours worked. This fee is to compensate the girls for coming in outside of their regular hours. We are proud to offer these time slots as the majority of cleaning companies do not offer regular residential services at these times.
What hours do you work?
Since we don't only do residential cleans, we also clean for businesses, new construction and Vacation Rentals we don't operate the way a typical 9-5 business would. Although our phone availability is limited to the hours of 10am to 6pm PST, our working hours are whatever works for you!
How long have you been in business?
Although Cascadia Cleaning Company was formed in 2017, every one of our full time staff has been cleaning professionally for at least 15 years and all are certified Building Service Workers or equivalent, trained and experienced to work in all fields of cleaning from stripping and waxing floors to polishing chandeliers.
Cascadia Cleaning Company was formed to address all of the components lacking in other cleaning companies today. Think of us like a group of experienced seasoned professionals joining forces to create one cleaning super group!
Do you have any training or certifications?
All of our staff at Cascadia Cleaning Company are certified Building Service workers with years of on the job training and experience or have the equivalent training and experience through other employment.
A Building Service Worker is essentially a Janitor or Custodian. The training involved in becoming a BSW covers everything from WHMIS/Safety to general cleaning to using machinery to strip/wax/buff floors and more.
In addition to this training, Cascadia Cleaning Company's owner, Shannon, brings her wealth of animal knowledge as a certified Veterinary Assistant from West Coast College of Healthcare into the mix. In our quest to offer unbeatable service, several of Cascadia's staff are also trained in Dogsafe K9 First Aid training.
Do you do laundry? Empty dishwashers? Clean litter boxes?
Yes, yes and yes! Here at Cascadia it is our goal to help you make your life easier. Is there a small project you need help with or a goal you have been putting off? Give us a shout and we can start working on it.
There are some limits to what we can do and what our insurance will cover so if you have any special requests please don't hesitate to ask.
Do you offer pet sitting on the side?
With appropriate advanced notice Cascadia Cleaning Company is happy to accomodate in-house pet sitting services provided our terms work for all parties involved.
Is it ok for my pets to hang out in the same room as you when you clean?
Although we would love to hang out with your pets, loud noises like vacuums may be scary and chemicals potentially harmful to them so we would appreciate if your pets are kept in a crate or another room if possible while we are cleaning.
Are you bonded & insured?
Yes! Cascadia Cleaning Company is fully insured and bonded for peace of mind that your home and belongings are safe.
Are you Licensed as a cleaning business?
Yes. Cascadia Cleaning Company is fully licensed to clean anywhere within participating Fraser Valley Municialities (Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Mission, City & Townships of Langley, Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge, Surrey, Delta, Kent and Hope).
Do you clean windows?
At this point in time we only clean indoor windows reachable by step ladder. Having said that we may make exceptions at our own discretion. Cascadia is not licensed to clean windows so we will not do outdoor windows or any windows requiring a harness.
Do you only clean houses?
Cascadia Cleaning Company specializes in ALL residential and commercial cleaning services. Not only do we do regular homes and businesses, but we also do new construction clean ups, ICBC claims and more. If you have a cleaning need we can take care of it!
Do you detail cars?
Unfortunately we do not detail cars at this time, but we would be happy to refer you to someone who does.
What chemicals do you use on hardwood floors?
Cascadia Cleaning Company’s experienced workers have been cleaning for many years and understand the challenges and care needed for all different types of flooring. In order to determine which products we use, we take into consideration each homes personal cleaning issues, there is no one right answer. For general hardwood floors with no major issues that need addressing we typically use Method Floor Cleaner or Murphys Oil soap and distilled water (to eliminated residue marks left on the surface of the floor) and clean them by hand. If you have a particular product you want used on your floor or have a specific flooring issue to address we are happy to discuss this with you prior to cleaning.
Do you use your own vacuum? Mop? Supplies?
Yes! Here at Cascadia one of our many perks is having the best cleaning equipment, including Miele and Numatic Vacuums, which we clean and sanitize between houses to avoid cross contamination. When we get to your home we cover our shoes with booties to avoid tramping dirt and germs into your home. We start each house with fresh mop heads and colour coded rags to prevent cross contamination. You don’t want other peoples dirt and germs in your house when you are having someone come in to clean it. We provide all cleaning supplies, but if there is a specific product you want us to use please contact us ahead of time to arrange for this. We understand people have allergies and sensitivities to certain products and we want to make sure your needs are met. We only ask that you provide your own can liners for your garbage and recycling bins. We usually have some of our own on hand, but as we have a limited supply we cannot guarantee they will fit your particular receptacles.
What kind of miscellaneous projects do you perform?
Just ask us! I think you might be surprised at the amount of household tasks we are willing to perform. We even have our own resident handyman to tackle small repairs around the home. Make sure if this is a project requiring us to bring special tools or supplies that we have ample time to make sure we have them along.
If I refer a friend do I get a referral credit/discount?
We love referrals! In fact, almost ALL of our residential and commercial clients come from referrals.
To show our appreciation for spreading the love, after the referral has their first paid cleaning, we offer you the option of a cash referral credit or even bigger service credits, the choice is yours!
Make sure your referral tells us you sent them so we know where to spread the love.
Am I supposed to tip you for your service?
Too many businesses these days expect tips. Here at Cascadia Cleaning Company we never expect tips, but we sure do appreciate them! Not all tips need to involve money. Some of our best tips are positive reviews on social media or a kind word at the end of a long day. When you spend as much time as we do in other peoples homes our clients start to feel like family. If you really appreciate our services, please allow us to feature a testimonial from you on our website or marketing material.
What happens if you get sick?
At Cascadia Cleaning Company our top priority is the health and safety of both our employees and clients. It doesn’t make sense to have someone come in and clean your house of germs, yet spread them themselves. If one of our employees is sick, we will either arrange for another cleaner to cover their shift or we will contact you to reschedule your cleaning, whichever you prefer.
What happens if I have to reschedule or something comes up and I have to cancel?
We understand that life happens and even the best intended plans don’t always work out. Just contact us as soon as possible and we are happy to update our schedules.
Any last minute cancellations or reschedules with less than 48 hours notice will be charged a cancellation fee equal to the lesser of $120 or 50% of the cost of the scheduled appointment to cover costs associated with rescheduling and filling in that last minute spot.
Do I need to leave you a key? Alarm code?
With technology these days many homes and businesses have wireless systems that allow you to remotely lock and unlock doors or access businesses with just an app on your phone. The majority, however, still use just a regular key and/or alarm code. If you don’t feel comfortable giving us a copy of your key we ask that you leave a key out on that day in a hidden location like under a potted plant or in your mailbox so we have access to your home. If you would like, when we are finished cleaning your home we can leave the key in any location of your choice. Otherwise we request that someone be around to lock and unlock the doors for us.
If you have an alarm we would request that you tell us the code and the location of the keypad and any special directions regarding the alarm. Some alarms allow you to set up a specific code for a specific person so you know who is accessing the alarm and when. If you don’t feel comfortable having us know your alarm code, please leave the alarm unarmed on the day we arrive to clean. We will give you a quick text or email at your preference when we arrive and when we leave.
Most people give us a spare key and their alarm code. We treat each of our homes with the utmost care and respect. When we are not scheduled to clean, your key will be safely and securely locked in a fireproof lock box. The alarm codes will only be stored in association with a number that is assigned to you and not known to anybody outside of Cascadias owner, Shannon Carriere. She is also the only person with access to the lockbox where the keys are kept. Our business relies on integrity and privacy so we take this step very seriously.
Do I need to be home or can I be at work?
The choice is up to you, however we prefer if you are home that while we are cleaning you stay in a separate room. This is not because we are rude or antisocial, but we like to focus on the task at hand and eliminate any potential distractions.
Are you the person that is coming to clean my house?
Cascadia Cleaning Company is a small, family-like business. We prefer to work in two man teams, but sometimes as scheduling allows we will be coming solo. We like to have one or both of the same people always cleaning the same home or business to allow for continuity of cleaning. We have a rhyme and reason to our cleaning schedule and in the off chance that someone is sick or has an emergency and we have to send another one of our employees to clean your home the work we have already done is well documented so they can pick up where the last cleaner left off. Your satisfaction is our guarantee. If for any reason you are not fully satisfied with our service we want to know so we can make it right.
Do you come alone or as a team?
Generally we try to work in two person teams, but sometimes when there are scheduling conflicts like two cleans needing to be done in different cities at the same time or one of the cleaners not being available then we must work solo.
Are the people cleaning my house bonded and insured?
Cascadia Cleaning Company is fully insured and all of our employees bonded to work in any home or business that we clean for.
How do you screen employees?
Cascadia’s owner, Shannon Carriere, has been fortunate enough to work in the Janitorial/Cleaning community for the past 15 years and has had the pleasure of working with a large number of experienced cleaning professionals. It is from this network that she does all of her hiring. All of Cascadias employees abide by a strict drug free policy and have passed security clearances, most of them previously or currently working as cleaners for the government in schools/universities etc.
Can I do a background and drug check on you?
Absolutely! Not only do I not do drugs, I do not smoke and require that my employees do not smoke during working hours. This may sound strict, but a lot of our clients have sensitivities to irritants or scents and I tend to err on the side of caution.
All of my previous employment has required I pass security clearances and while working as a cleaner at the RCMP training center I was required to have an updated enhanced security clearance every 10 years. The most recent was completed in 2013.
How do you prefer to be contacted? Email? Phone/Text?
While we are on the job, we are completely focused on the task at hand so we often miss phone calls. As our days are very busy we can only promise that your phone call will be returned the same business day. Our phone hours are 10am to 6pm Monday to Saturday. If for any reason we cannot reach you by 6pm that evening we will keep trying. If there is a time or number that you are best reached at please leave that information in your message.
If you need to get in contact with us faster please text or email. We only check phone calls between jobs, but we are able to receive text and email notifications instantly. We may not be able to reply immediately, but they will be seen first.
What happens if you break something in our house?
Cascadia Cleaning Company has yet to break an item in a home or business, but we know even the most well-intentioned cleaners can accidentally knock over or damage something. To reduce the risk of anything accidentally being damaged we ask that prior to our visit you secure all delicate or important items that you would not want us moving or dusting around. In the event that something is damaged we will notify you and if it can be repaired we will repair it, or if it needs to be replaced we will replace it. Cascadia Cleaning Company is fully insured so you can rest easy knowing your home or business is in good hands.
Are you going to tell my neighbors about me? My messy house? My personal habits?
What happens in your house stays in your house. We often have clients who tidy up before we come or who feel the need to change out of their pajamas before we come over, but we are just regular people too. We don’t judge our clients their lifestyles. Whatever you are embarrassed about in your house we have probably seen much worse over the years. Client confidentiality is important to us, we don’t share your information or habits with anyone. We wouldn’t be able to keep so many happy repeat customers if we did.
Do you set a time to come back next so I know when to expect you or is it random?
There are a lot of variables id we accommodate all of these needs. If you are scheduled for cleanings on a weekly or bi weekly basis we will confirm with you the date of your next appointment on the invoice left from your last clean. We will then contact you to verify hat this day works for you and to schedule a time for the cleaning. ommodate all of these needs. Do you always come the same time/same day?
Before we schedule your cleaning we verify with you the day that you want and then confirm a time or time frame that works best for you.
Do you show up on time?
Not only do we show up on time, but we try to show up ten minutes early to unload our supplies and delegate tasks. Also this gives us time to review any notes that may have been left for us or if you are home discuss any additional services you might like performed.
Do you clean the same stuff each time or rotate chores around the house?
One of the benefits of our checklist system is we know exactly what has been done at your house each time and which area needs the most attention during the next visit. The items on the checklist are things that are performed at every visit, but certain occasional cleanings like vacuuming out ceiling vents or wet cleaning baseboards are rotated out on a regular basis to ensure that all areas of your home are taken care of.
Do you use environmentally friendly chemicals?
One of the benefits of Cascadia Cleaning Company is we customize our cleans to your specifications. We understand that although some people prefer the cleaning power and scent of typical chemical cleaners, others have allergies or sensitivities that require them to avoid such solvents or just prefer a more environmentally friendly clean.
We accommodate individual preference with everything from just using steamed water, vinegar, baking soda and other such natural ingredients, to green cleaners like Simple Green and Sal's Suds to the more typical cleaning products like Bar Keepers Friend and Murphy's Oil Soap. It’s all up to you!
How do you know what type of chemicals to use on different surfaces and how did you learn?
The simple answer? Experience. Well, experience and education. Part of the Building Service Worker program is understanding the science of cleaning and what those chemicals do to the surfaces they touch.
In reality, after 15 years of cleaning you start to find out which products work best for you. When your livelihood and reputation rely on doing a great job without damaging anything, you are very careful about which products you use and where.
In an industry where there are many horror stories about people ruining self cleaning ovens from putting oven cleaner inside of them, damaging marble by using bleach or warping floors with too much liquid, it is imperative to know what you are doing.

Do I pay you under the table? Do you pay taxes? I’d like to use housecleaning as a deductible expense for my home business.
There are many forms of payment we will accept, but unfortunately we too must pay our taxes. Cascadia Cleaning Company is a legitimate registered business ( GST # 70716 8126 RT0001 ). All of our prices include 5% GST so you are welcome to write off our cleaning services as a tax deductible for your home business.
I work from home. Will it bother you if I’m home?
Many of our clients work from home and we try our best to stay out of your way. If there is an area of the house you would like us to avoid or skip as you are working there please let us know on arrival and we can steer clear. Although we love to visit, we need to make sure that our time (and your time) is being spent as efficiently as possible so we can stay on schedule so our employees can stay focussed on the task at hand.
Do you accept credit cards?
Yes we accept credit card payments through Square.
Do you offer a guarantee on your work?
Absolutely! We love to hear feedback of what we’re doing good on and what you would like us to improve on. At the end of each visit we leave an invoice with the date of the next visit and what we’ve done as well as an opportunity for you to give us feedback. If there is anything you want done differently on your next visit just give us a call, text or email or leave us a note and we will do our best to make it right. If there is anything you are immediately unhappy about that cannot wait til the next visit call or text us immediately and we guarantee to return and fix it to your satisfaction or your money back.
If I forget to leave a cheque do you still do the work and let me pay you later or do you skip the cleaning?
People forget things! If you forget to leave a cheque or money out and can’t get it to us before we leave your house we will contact you to arrange payment after or request that you pay by e-transfer or credit card. If this happens more than once we may ask you to prepay your visits.
What cities/towns do you offer service in?
For general residential cleaning at the moment we only service Chilliwack from Rosedale/The Falls East to Yarrow/Greendale West.
For moving cleans we service anywhere in Agassiz, Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Mission, and Aldergrove. Anything outside of Chilliwack carries an additional fuel surcharge.
As far as commercial cleaning goes, we service ALL of Chilliwack/Abbotsford and surrounding areas.
